PROS: the guys who showed up were very nice. Responsiveness was good and they called me when they had an earlier cancellation. Accommodating by giving a one hour discount for huge issue of no packing supplies on truck and the inconvenience. Arrived on time. Major called multiple times to apologize for the issues we ran in to and to check in on me when I was stressing out. The guys did lift some heavy items.
CONS: WAY too slow. Took 3 hrs to pack 2 cabinets of dishes in dining room. I have moved multiple times in my life and know for a fact it does not take this long, despite their insistence that it does. If that were true, it would take an entire day to pack two rooms and a week or more for a whole house. I have had every previous moving company pack my entire house and load it in less than 9 hrs. I was clear about how much there was to move. I was not moving my entire house, but there was still a fair amount of furniture to move. I had already moved most of the smaller stuff out of the house. They knew the circumstances under which I was moving and needed to be moved out as quickly as possible. They took minutes per piece with one guy taking 10 minutes per small box of books. I had ONE bookcase of books- 2 hrs. Was quoted for a crew of 4 and only 3 showed. The one in charge took his time doing everything and did a lot of standing around on the truck waiting for one box at a time. After the 3 hrs of work, they took a one hour lunch. Since the head guy got the wrong truck, there were no packing supplies so they used mine. They only packed 25 boxes for the whole day. If they had packed more quickly, they could have taken two loads to the house (ten minutes down the road). They bad mouthed the owner/manager, Major, as it being his fault for them not being able to move my whole house–that they get stuck like this all the time with not enough people or supplies or tools. The head guy, Rob, kept saying that they were just going to ‘make hours’ multiple times during the day, which should have been my first clue they were not going to do as promised. I feel bad for Major as his business is being hurt by this kind of slow work attitude by his workers. I ended up packing a few boxes myself to show them how fast it should be done. I packed 6 boxes in less than half an hour. The crew wasted time by taking forever to pack a box and then slowly walking it out to the truck, chatting, and then walking back. Milking every minute. When they wanted to load a piece of furniture, they put everything that was on that furniture on the floor instead of packing it. So when they left, there was stuff everywhere on the floor, trash from the packing left on the floor, so when I got back home after the unload, I had to pick up items from all over the house. In the unload, they would only put together my bed. They would not put the mirrors back on the dresser. They did not have enough blankets for the furniture so there were major rub marks on most of the pieces. They broke part of one leg off of one dresser. Most of the damages came from Rob trying to handle large pieces by himself, dropping them or losing grip and it crashing in the back of the truck.
The cost (over $1700) was not worth it. 2 bedroom sets plus 1 extra bed, 2 cabinet contents (one spice, one measuring cups/bowls) from kitchen, 2 cabinets and dishes in dining, 1 couch, 4 end tables, one office (desk, 6 bookshelves, one office hutch-all empty already except one bookcase of books). THAT IS ALL IN 10 HOURS of packing. Offered to reschedule an additional day to move the other 3/4 of my stuff. Why would i do that if they couldn’t pack even 1/3 of my stuff and charge me again to not get it all done??? Sorry, Major, your people are screwing you out of business.
